Bitbucket Data Center end of life: not in 2029
Atlassian is ending its Data Center products on March 28, 2029, but not Bitbucket Data Center: in Atlassian's words, Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center "will not end of life" and continue beyond 2029, under a new Bitbucket Hybrid License. What does end is support for each version, two years after its release. The next ones are 9.3 on October 29, 2026 and 9.4 (LTS) on December 3, 2026.
What ends in 2029, and what does not
From Atlassian's Data Center end of life page, for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence and Crowd Data Center and their Marketplace apps (all times 23:59 PST):
- March 30, 2026: new customers can no longer buy Data Center subscriptions or Data Center apps.
- March 30, 2028: existing customers can no longer buy new subscriptions, expansions or upgrades.
- March 28, 2029: end of life. Subscriptions and apps expire, the products become read-only, and technical support and critical security fixes end.
Bitbucket Data Center and Bamboo Data Center are not on that list. Existing customers keep their Data Center environments where they are, and can renew to the Bitbucket Hybrid License when their current subscription ends.
The Bitbucket Hybrid License
From Atlassian's Bitbucket Hybrid License page:
- What it includes: Bitbucket Data Center, Bamboo Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud with Pipelines, in one subscription. They stay separate products; Atlassian plans tighter integration between them.
- Who can get it: only existing Bitbucket Data Center, Bitbucket Server, Bamboo Data Center and Bamboo Server customers.
- When: early 2027.
- No migration needed: your Data Center environments stay as they are, with no data transfer. Moving to Cloud is optional.
- Until then: existing Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center licenses remain available until March 28, 2029. After that, Bitbucket Data Center is sold only through the Hybrid License.
- Without it: Data Center is a subscription, so after March 28, 2029 at 23:59 PST a Bitbucket Data Center that is not on the Hybrid License switches to read-only mode, and nobody can push code.
When support ends for each version
Atlassian's Support End of Life Policy supports each feature or Long Term Support (LTS) release for two years after it comes out, and not after its end of support date. The Bitbucket dates on that page (last updated October 9, 2026):
| Version | Support ends |
|---|---|
| 9.0 | July 23, 2026 |
| 9.1 | August 27, 2026 |
| 9.2 | September 24, 2026 |
| 9.3 | October 29, 2026 |
| 9.4 (LTS) | December 3, 2026 |
| 9.5 | January 7, 2027 |
| 9.6 | January 18, 2027 |
| 10.0 | September 8, 2027 |
| 10.1 | November 20, 2027 |
| 10.2 (LTS) | March 3, 2028 |
| 10.3 | May 12, 2028 |
| 10.4 | July 21, 2028 |
The 8.x releases are no longer listed. The last of them, 8.19 (LTS), came out on March 12, 2024 (release notes), so its two years ended in March 2026. An LTS release gets critical security and product bug fixes backported throughout those two years (the same release notes); after 9.4, the next LTS is 10.2.
Pull requests on Bitbucket Data Center from IntelliJ IDEA
Pull Request Inbox for Bitbucket, a plugin by Lesstep for JetBrains IDEs 2024.1 or later, lists the pull requests of Bitbucket Cloud and, in beta, of Bitbucket Data Center 8.9 or later in an IDE tool window: the ones waiting for your review, their diffs, discussions and merge checks. Some features follow the server's version: draft pull requests from 8.18, and one comment on several selected lines of the diff from 9.3. The review inbox is free; approving, commenting and merging are Pro (US$1.50 a month, with a 30-day trial). It talks only to your Bitbucket, with no AI features and no telemetry.
