Azure DevOps: "TF401180: The requested pull request was not found."

TF401180 is Azure DevOps' answer, with HTTP 404, when it cannot find the pull request at the address a tool asked for. The number may simply be wrong, but in public reports the pull request often exists: it belongs to another repository than the one in the address, to another project, or to a project the signed-in user cannot see, which Azure DevOps reports the same way.

The whole answer

Asked here on October 24, 2026, without signing in, from a public project on dev.azure.com, for a pull request number that does not exist:

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

{"$id":"1","innerException":null,"message":"TF401180: The requested pull request was not found.",
 "typeName":"Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Git.Server.GitPullRequestNotFoundException, Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Git.Server",
 "typeKey":"GitPullRequestNotFoundException","errorCode":0,"eventId":3000}

What public reports show

What to check

  1. Open it in the browser: https://dev.azure.com/{organization}/{project}/_git/{repository}/pullrequest/{id}. If it opens there but not in the tool, compare the organization, project and repository the tool uses.
  2. Ask the project's address (GET https://dev.azure.com/{organization}/{project}/_apis/git/pullrequests/{id}?api-version=7.1): it finds the pull request without a repository, and repository.name says where it lives.
  3. In a pipeline, Microsoft's predefined variables keep them apart: System.PullRequest.PullRequestId is the pull request that caused the build, System.PullRequest.SourceRepositoryUri the repository that contains it, and Build.Repository.Name the triggering repository. When a branch policy of one repository runs a pipeline from another, build the address from the pull request's repository, or use the project's address.
  4. Check that you can see it: a pull request in a project or repository you cannot read is not found for you. Ask a project administrator, or use an account that is a member.

Azure DevOps pull requests in IntelliJ IDEA and Rider

Azure DevOps Pull Requests, a plugin by Lesstep for JetBrains IDEs 2024.1 or later and Android Studio, reads the organization, project and repository from your git remote and lists the pull requests that wait for your review in an IDE tool window, on Azure DevOps Services and on Azure DevOps Server: from the repositories you have open, the whole project or every project of the organization, each read from its own repository and project, so there are no numbers to copy. You can vote, comment and complete without leaving the IDE. The review inbox is free; voting, commenting, completing and creating are Pro, with a 30-day trial.
