Azure DevOps pull requests in PyCharm
PyCharm 2026.2 reviews GitHub pull requests and GitLab merge requests by itself, but not Azure DevOps pull requests: of the JetBrains IDEs, only Rider has Azure DevOps built in, and the request to bring it to the others, IJPL-196655, is open. Microsoft's Azure DevOps plugin, last updated in April 2023, is offered by JetBrains Marketplace only up to IDE 2025.1, so PyCharm 2025.2 and later cannot install it, and an installed copy shows as "Marked as incompatible" (why). PyCharm's Git still works with Azure Repos as with any other remote: clone, commit, push, pull, branches and merges.
Azure DevOps Pull Requests, a plugin by Lesstep, brings the pull requests into PyCharm and the other JetBrains IDEs 2024.1 or later: the ones waiting for your vote, their diffs, comments and branch policies, and voting and completing, on Azure DevOps Services and on Azure DevOps Server 2019 or later and TFS 2018 Update 2 or later. What PyCharm does with Azure DevOps by itself
| Task | PyCharm 2026.2, built in | With Azure DevOps Pull Requests |
|---|---|---|
| Clone, commit, push, pull, branches | Yes (Git) | The same: the plugin leaves Git to PyCharm |
| Pull requests waiting for your vote | No | Yes, from one repository, the whole project or every project of the organization |
| The diff, comment threads and branch policies | No | Yes (commenting is Pro) |
| Vote, complete, set auto-complete, abandon | No | Pro |
| Create a pull request from the current branch | No | Pro |
| GitHub pull requests, GitLab merge requests | Yes | Not covered: Azure DevOps only |
In PyCharm with this plugin
- Open Settings | Plugins | Marketplace, search for Azure DevOps Pull Requests and install it. JetBrains' Plugin Verifier finds it compatible with PyCharm 2024.1.7, the oldest release it supports, and with PyCharm 2026.2.3 (version 1.0.67, checked October 27, 2026).
- Open a project cloned from Azure Repos (dev.azure.com, visualstudio.com or your own server): the plugin reads the organization or collection and the project from the Git remote.
- Create a personal access token with the Code (Read & write) scope (Code (Read) to read only) and enter it in Settings | Tools | Azure DevOps Pull Requests; it is kept in the IDE's password safe. On Azure DevOps Services you can tick Use my Azure CLI sign-in (az login) instead of a token instead, for organizations that restrict personal access tokens (az repos pr and the Azure CLI).
- Find Azure PRs in the right tool window bar: the pull requests waiting for your vote. Open one for its diff, discussions and branch policies.
